A food intolerance is difficulty digesting certain foods and having an unpleasant physical reaction to them. It causes symptoms, such as bloating and stomach pain, which usually come on a few hours after consuming the food.

The number of people who believe they have a food intolerance has risen dramatically over recent years, but it’s hard to know how many people are truly affected. Many people assume they have a food intolerance when the true cause of their symptoms is something else.

If you require food intolerance testing, please contact the surgery to arrange an appointment.

Ozone is a colourless gas made up of three oxygen atoms. It is used as an alternative therapy to improve the body’s intake and use of oxygen and to activate the immune system.

In medicine, ozone therapy is used to disinfect and treat conditions by disinfecting the area around them, improving the body’s intake and use of oxygen, and activating the immune system. Using a gas as a medical treatment is unusual, so there are special techniques that are employed.

It is used for treating the following:

  • Infected wounds

  • Circulatory disorders

  • Geriatric disorders

  • Macular degeneration

  • Viral diseases

  • Rheumatism and arthritis

  • Cancer

  • SARS

  • AIDS

There have been some promising studies examining how ozone may be beneficial to health by:

  • Inactivating bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasites, yeast, and protozoa

  • Stimulating the immune system to speed up healing

  • Improving circulation by cleaning the arteries and veins

  • Purifying blood and the lymph

  • Normalising hormone and enzyme production

  • Having anti-inflammatory properties

  • Reducing pain

  • Stopping bleeding

  • Preventing shock

  • Limiting stroke damage

  • Reducing cardiac arrhythmia or abnormal heart rhythm

  • Reducing the risk of complications from diabetes

  • Improving brain function and memory

Acupuncture is a treatment derived from ancient Chinese medicine. Fine needles are inserted at certain sites in the body for therapeutic or preventative purposes.

Western medical acupuncture is the use of acupuncture following a medical diagnosis. It involves stimulating sensory nerves under the skin and in the muscles of the body.

This results in the body producing natural substances, such as pain-relieving endorphins. It’s likely that these naturally released substances are responsible for the beneficial effects experienced with acupuncture.

A course of acupuncture usually creates longer lasting pain relief than when a single treatment is used.

Practitioners who adhere to traditional beliefs about acupuncture believe that when Qi doesn’t flow freely through the body, this can cause illness. They also believe acupuncture can restore the flow of Qi, and so restore health.

Acupuncture practitioners – sometimes called acupuncturists – use acupuncture to treat a wide range of health conditions such as:

  • Chronic migraines

Acupuncture is also often used to treat other musculoskeletal conditions (of the bones and muscles) and pain conditions, including:

  • Chronic pain, such as neck pain

  • Joint pain

  • Dental pain

  • Postoperative pain

Colon hydrotherapy treatment, also know as colonics, is a natural and gentle way of enhancing a compromised digestive system and treating problems with eliminating waste. The bowel harbours friendly bacteria that perform important functions like aiding in the manufacture of vitamins and breaking down foods so that they can be absorbed properly for optimal nutrition. Colon hydrotherapy is to clear the body of toxins and provide relief from a range of conditions.

How Colon Hydrotherapy Works

During colon hydrotherapy, filtered water is used to flush out toxic build up in the bowel including faecal waste, intestinal parasites, harmful bacteria, mucus and gas. Water enters the body and fills the lumen of the colon, producing a gentle pressure against the colon wall. This action initiates peristalsis which, combined with the water, propels waste matter out of the body. The muscles of the bowel are “exercised,” resulting in the strengthening of the bowel as well as cleansing.

Effects of a Compromised Colon

An inefficient colon with an excess of toxic waste and a depletion of healthy bacteria may aggravate or create a wide range of conditions. Toxic build up can lead to an improper transfer of essential nutrients into the body and the proper elimination of waste. Conditions affected by a compromised colon include:

  • Eczema

  • Diverticulosis

  • Food sensitivities

  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

  • Gout

  • Haemorrhoids

Other conditions that may be helped by colon hydrotherapy include irritability, memory loss, yeast infections, lethargy, psoriasis and premenstrual syndrome (PMS).

Some medications must be given by an intravenous (IV) injection or infusion. This means they’re sent directly into your vein using a needle or tube. In fact, the term “intravenous” means “into the vein”.

With IV administration, a thin plastic tube called an IV catheter is inserted into your vein. The catheter allows your healthcare provider to give you multiple safe doses of medication without needing to poke you with a needle each time.
